At
the plenary session of the International Centre for Genetic Engineering
and Biotechnology (International Centre for Genetic Engineering and
Biotechnology, ICGEB) held in Cape Town (South Africa) on November 28th
2008, Institute for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (INGEB) was
named affiliate center of the said organization.
International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (International Centre for Genetic Engineeing and
Biotechnology, ICGEB)
was established under the special program of UNIDO (United Nations
Industrial Development Organization), and since 1994 is an autonomous
intergovernmental organization under constant cooperation with the UN.
The main activity of ICGEB is application of advanced research and
education in molecular biology and biotechnology, and the development
of modern techniques in the fields of biomedicine, genetic engineering
and biotechnology and environmental protection.
Declaration
of the Institute for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology as affiliate
center of ICGEB is even more important if we take into account
that only 39 scientific institutions in the world have such status.
By
organizing sector of INGEB as affiliate center of ICGEB within
INGEB, the practical requirements for the ability to offer
scientific and research support to other B&H scientific
institutions in the field of applied bioengineering and biomedicine
were realized. Such assistance would be realized through:
- organizing various training and education in the field of molecular biology, genetics, genetic engineering and biotechnology;
- assistance in the activities of laboratories which lack the infrastructure and because of that can not process a particular analysis;
- technical assistance in the application of B&H institutions for the ICGEB scientific research projects;
- technical assistance in the application of B&H students for the ICGEB doctoral and postdoctoral fellowships;
- preparation and implementation of shared projects with INGEB, within ICGEB grant.
All
necessary informations are available from Professor Kasim Bajrović,
governor of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the ICGEB, Naris Pojskić,
PhD, as coordinator of INGEB sector and Elma Silajdžić as
technical assistant.
